Scott Taylor

Son of John Taylor and Isabella Gilboe


Scott Taylor was of Presbyterian faith. He left home when he was eighteen years old and his father gave him a thousand dollars. He bought land on the SW 1/4 Lot 2, 7th Concession, near the Arner Townline in March 1891. Built a small one room house and lived in it alone for six years before he married Annie Maria Markle March 31, 1897. He cleared fifty acres by hand,  tiled another ten acres on the Arner Townline. He also donated one hundred dollars towards the building of the Elford Church.  In 1897 he married Annie Maria Markle from Salem, Waterloo County, Ontario.

Chocolate Cake Recipe

Melt 2 oz. unsweetened chocolate in 1/2 cup boiling water

Add 1 tsp.. baking soda.  Let Cool

Cream Sugar and Butter

1 cup sugar

4 Tbsp. Butter


Sift dry ingredients

1 1/2 cups flour

1 tbsp. baking powder

1 tsp. salt

1/2 cup sour milk

1 tsp. vanilla

Alternately add flour and milk to creamed sugar and butter, beating well after each addition.


Bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees.
