Taylor Research
There have been many members of the Taylor family who have had a strong interest and pride in their family history. “They knew they were Scottish
they were of the Clan Cameron, and came from the Isle of Bute, Scotland to Canada about 1822?.
Throughout the years several members of the family individually and unknown to each other searched for their Taylor and Scottish roots. While stationed in England during the second World War, Ray Taylor took a trip to Scotland to look up relatives and research family history. He met with two sisters who had never married and who had the family Bible which he could not get them to part with. Ray took the time to copy the entries births and deaths and also copied information on Rent Receipts given to Mountstuart at Bute on behalf of John Taylor whose Croft was Kilmory McNeil. This information was passed on to any family member interested. As a result of his visit we had more of the Taylor Clan coming to Canada in the 1950's. It had been over 100 years since the first family came to Canada.
Grace Christie Joyce, the granddaughter of Alexander Taylor and Carrie Dewhirst Taylor, a teacher, historian and researcher of family history. was raised by her grandparents and so she had access to their stories as well as a scrapbook kept by her grandmother. Grace spent 50 years researching the Taylor and Dewhirst and other familes as well as Essex County history. The work that she did gave us a solid foundation of information that we were able to build on. Some of the information would certainly have been lost for all of us and family connections known to those of the 1900 era may have been very difficult, if not impossible to find in the year 2000.
Both Ray Taylor and Grace Joyce have died but the research continues.
These are just a couple of the valuable contributors to the Taylor Family History.
