Rent Receipts for the Croft at Kilmory McNeil

Ray Taylor, while serving in England in the RCAF during WWII took a trip to Bute and Ayrshire during his leave.  He found some family members in the area and two elderly sisters had a Taylor Family Bible as well as Rent Receipts that had belonged to John McIntaylor / Taylor some to  Mountstuart for the Croft at Kilmory McNeil  (copied from originals by Ray Taylor and written on notebook paper and photocopied) Below is transcribed form his notes.


The Canadian Taylors Forefathers

19th May 1779

Received six shillings for penny half penny of

vicearage rents paid to the Minister of Rothesay

for the forsaid crops.

22nd June 1779 – John Taylor has delivered to

Mr. Macniel late of Kilimorie Two

Bolls meal which shall be allowed

inpart of his usual far[]s crop one

thousand seven hundred and seventy

eight.

Mountstuart – 18 November 1779 – Received

from John Taylor in Kilmory MacNeil

three pound seven shillings and ten

pence sterl ___________with the

contents of the four preceeding receipts

is in full of his rent crops one

thousand seven hundred and seventy

eight where of he is discharged by

in Kilmory McNeil M Campbell spring field

receipt for two Bolls and three firlots of

Meal to be allowed him inpart of his

Rent Crop ……. and seventy nine.

Received from John Taylor in Kilmory

Macneil one pound nine shillings

and one pence for land and six shillings

and a penny half penny for vicarage

tiends he has also delivered Donald

McKinlays rec’d for Eleven bolls

[bear] and John McKirdies rec’d for three

firlots hear stipends pay’d to the “Min”

of Rothesay all for crops one thousand

seven hundred and seventy-nine.

19th June 1781 – Received from

John Taylor in Kilmory Macneil

two pounds and two shillings sterling

to account of his rent crops one thousand,

seven hundred eighty he has also

produced to me John MacKinlay receipt

for Fourteen Bolls and a furlot of meal

to be allowed on account of said crops.

to John Mackirdee for the “Min” of  Rothesay

for the above crop.

20th June 1781 – Received from John Taylor

 in Kilmory Mcneil one shilling and two

pence half penny in cash and allowed

him one pound sixteen shillings for a

yule cow bought by me of this date in

all one pound sixteen shillings and

two pence half penny this to account

of his rent crop, one thousand

seven hundred and eighty.

eight pence half penny sterling

in cash and he formerly

delivered thirteen bolls and one

firlot meal into the granary an he

has produced to me Daniel MacKerdays

rec. for twelve Bolls hear

he has also paid three firlots _____hear

to the Minister of Rothesay all to

account of Crops one thousand

and eight one years whereof he is discharged by
